The integrated membrane treatment system for formation foil nitric acid wastewater is a high-efficiency solution designed for handling nitric acid/aluminum nitrate waste generated during formation foil production. The system combines diffusion dialysis, ion exchange, homogeneous membrane electrodialysis, and reverse osmosis technologies to recover and reconcentrate nitric acid, remove aluminum ions, and achieve zero discharge of acidic wastewater.
By using integrated membrane technology, nitric acid in the waste stream can be recycled and concentrated to over 8%, while producing reusable freshwater. This improves resource utilization in production and reduces environmental impact.
Wastewater containing approximately 5% nitric acid first enters a diffusion dialysis unit, where nitric acid is recovered and reconcentrated for reuse. The diffusion dialysis residue, which still contains a small amount of nitric acid and aluminum nitrate, enters an ion exchange system to remove aluminum ions, resulting in a solution with about 0.5% nitric acid.
The solution is then sent to a homogeneous membrane electrodialysis unit, where nitric acid is concentrated to over 8% and fed back to the acid mixing tank. The diluted water generated from electrodialysis passes through a reverse osmosis system. The RO permeate is reused as diffusion dialysis receiving water, while the RO concentrate is returned to the electrodialysis unit, enabling continuous nitric acid recycling and zero acidic wastewater discharge.
• High-efficiency nitric acid recovery: Increases nitric acid concentration from ~5% to over 8%, enabling cycle reuse
• Aluminum ion removal: Ion exchange effectively removes aluminum ions, ensuring the purity of recovered acid
• Zero acidic wastewater discharge: Integrated membrane and reverse osmosis technologies allow full recycling of acidic wastewater
• Multi-stage membrane synergy: Diffusion dialysis, electrodialysis, and reverse osmosis work together to maintain stable water and acid quality
• Resource saving: Recovered freshwater is reused as diffusion dialysis receiving water, reducing raw material and water consumption
• Formation foil production wastewater treatment: Suitable for waste streams containing nitric acid and aluminum nitrate
• Nitric acid recovery and reconcentration: Diffusion dialysis combined with electrodialysis increases acid concentration and enables cycle use
• Aluminum ion removal: Ion exchange treatment removes aluminum from residual wastewater, improving acid quality
• Acidic water reuse: RO permeate is reused in the diffusion dialysis system, lowering water consumption
• Industrial zero discharge: Achieves zero discharge of acidic wastewater, enhancing environmental performance and sustainable production
