Membrane CH4 Unit

Membrane CH4 Unit uses membrane technology for methane (CH4) - related operations.
Product Details

‌The Membrane CH₄ Unit purifies biogas generated from organic waste, energy crops, landfill gas, or wastewater treatment plants. After the purification process, the resultant biomethane, with a purity of up to 99.95%, can be fed into the natural gas transportation system or used as vehicle fuel (liquefied biomethane).

Biogas Purification Process

The system configuration depends on the composition and specifications of the feed gas and the quality requirements of the product gas. Biogas from sludge digesters is pre-compressed by a gas blower. Most of the water is removed from the biogas through condensation in the biogas cooler. Carbon columns are typically used to remove hydrogen sulfide and other contaminants. A gas compressor unit provides the pressure required for the membrane gas separation process. Up to 80% of the heat generated by the compressor can be recovered to reduce overall energy costs. The compressed biogas enters the pretreatment stage of the membrane unit, which consists of auxiliary coolers, heat exchangers, and coalescing filters. The feed gas is distributed into the membrane vessels through a manifold. The gas passes through hollow fibers, where fast-permeating components such as carbon dioxide and water permeate to the outside of the membrane module. The residual stream from the first membrane stage enters the next membrane stage for further separation and then exits the unit as purified biomethane.
